  • Rib Remodeling/
    Repositioning Surgery
    (Waist Narrowing)
This surgical procedure is aimed at altering the shape of the upper body by removing or repositioning certain ribs, typically the 10th and 11th (sometimes 12th) ribs, located at the bottom of the ribcage. The primary goal of this surgery is to create a more defined waistline to achieve an hourglass figure.
Patients who are not able to reduce their waist through a healthy diet and regular exercise, or transgender patients, may elect to receive this procedure to improve the feminine appearance.

Surgical Procedure
Both rib removal and repositioning surgery is performed under general anesthesia.
- Rib Repositioning: Incisions of approximately 1 cm are made to resect a portion of the rib bone.
The ribcage is then compressed and reshaped by wearing a rib brace.
Postoperative Care
  • Hospital Stay
After surgery, patients usually need to stay in the hospital for 1-3 days to ensure they are recovering well and to manage pain effectively.
  • Pain Management
Pain and discomfort are expected after rib removal/repositioning surgery. Patients will be prescribed pain medications and advised to use cold compression near the surgical area to help reduce swelling and discomfort.
  • Wound Care
Proper care of the surgical site is crucial to prevent infection. Patients will be given specific instructions on how to keep the area clean and how to change dressings.
  • Activity Restrictions
Patients will be asked to wear a rib brace for up to 6 weeks. Physical activity will be limited for several weeks post-surgery. Strenuous activities, heavy lifting, and any movement that strains the torso should be avoided for at least 3-4 weeks. Light activities such as walking or stretching are encouraged to promote faster recovery.
  • Follow-Up Appointments
Follow-up appointments may be needed to evaluate the results and to make sure that the patients are experiencing an efficient recovery. Travelling overseas patients will be asked to report any unusual symptoms, such as excessive pain, fever, or unusual swelling.
Recovery Timeline
Pain and discomfort are expected for the first few days after the surgery.
While strenuous exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for 3 to 4 weeks after surgery,
light activities such as walking or stretching are encouraged to promote faster recovery.
Complete recovery may take weeks up to 3 months.
